1. About Lightspeed Research and MySurvey panel
TNS is a consumer research company. We've been helping businesses find out what consumers think since 1946 when we launched the very first consumer panel. We run surveys via phone, mail and via the Internet with our online MySurvey panel. The opinions of our panel members are very important as they shape the products and services of the future. Cash reward credit cards, child safety seats, and new food products are examples of the innovations driven by the consumer research conducted with our panel.
TNS is ranked as the world’s largest provider of custom research and analysis, operating globally across 70 countries. For more information about us, please visit the
About Us page on the MySurvey website. For more on the benefits of membership, please visit the
MySurvey Rewards page.
Businesses, governments, public bodies and similar organisations are interested in the views and attitudes of the people who use their products and services. The more they know about what customers and potential customers, citizens and consumers think, the easier it is for them to improve and adapt what they supply. MySurvey gives them the chance to do this – and gives you the opportunity to influence what goes on in the world.
Our clients are well-known large to mid-size companies. As for our members’ personal information, our client’s names are kept confidential. Knowing our client’s identity could also bias our members’ opinions while answering our surveys.
Companies recurrently use market research to make decisions on product development and marketing. By participating in our surveys, you will help develop new products, shape the products you see in stores, services offered to you, and advertisements you see on television or in print.
Membership is always free and voluntary. In fact, we reward your time and opinion by offering you redeemable MySurvey Points. Please visit our
Rewards page for more information about the tangible rewards offered to our members.
No. We do not sell or give away the contact details of our members to anyone and we carry no advertising on our website. We will never try to sell you a product or service and companies who use our services have no access to your personal information. For more information on our privacy policy, please visit our
MySurvey privacy page.

2. Registration form
Our panel is an invite-only panel, hence you are only able to join the MySurvey panel, when you are invited by one of our recruitment partners.
Only one membership per household is allowed. From time to time, we may ask other members of your household to take our surveys, however, always through your membership.
At MySurvey we work with multiple recruitment partners. You may have received an advertisement from more than one of our recruitment partners. Because we never release or share your information with any of these partners in order to protect your privacy, our partners have no way of knowing who is or who is not already a MySurvey member. If you are already a member of MySurvey please disregard these messages. It will not affect your membership in any way.
When you were invited to join the MySurvey panel by e-mail and accidentally deleted this e-mail with the internet link to the Registration form, we regret to inform you we are unable to retrieve this link. But we are sure you will be invited once more to our panel through one of our channels.
It’s rare to have a problem when entering a survey but possible problems are that:
In most e-mail programs a piece of text automatically becomes a link if it starts with http. If you are online and click on the link, you should go straight to the Registration form. If this does not happen, try copying and pasting the link into the address bar on your browser.
Sometimes a URL address or link will be too long to display on just one line. The first portion of the address may be a hyperlink, but if the rest of the link falls onto a separate line, it will invalidate the address. You can try clicking on the "invalid" portion of the URL address and then reattaching the remaining segment(s) in the browser’s address bar by copying and pasting those segments to the end of the incomplete URL. Sometimes clicking on the hyperlinked portion of the URL address may redirect you to a different site, or you may receive an error message regarding the site not being available. In this case, you should either copy and paste the entire URL address onto your browser, or manually type it in, to access the survey site.
(I) Many people may be trying to complete the questionnaire at the same time, which temporarily overloads the server: you will probably succeed if you just try again later.
(II) It is possible that the use of JavaScript is switched off in the settings of your browser, in which case the questionnaire will not work. Check the internet options of your browser and change it if necessary.
(III) Most of our surveys are tested on Internet Explorer and if you are using a different kind of browser you may have problems. Try opening the survey in Internet Explorer.
If that happens, there may be a temporary technical problem. The best thing to do is to try again later. If you get an error message while you are working on the questionnaire, log in later and carry on from where you have left off. You can also contact our Support team, using the contact link at the bottom of this page.
It sounds like you may have your cookies or you may be using a firewall (such as Zone Alarm) or anti-virus software (such as Norton Anti-Virus) where the default settings disable cookies.
Cookies are used to identify valid members, protect access to your specific member information and to personalise member experience. Users who choose not to allow cookies cannot register nor can they access the member area of the MySurveyEurope website with its associated member benefits (such as taking surveys, earning reward points and redeeming rewards).

Sometimes the "Next Question" button is located to the far bottom right of the screen and therefore difficult to locate. Please scroll to the bottom and the far right of the page to see if the button is there.
It is also possible that the page did not download completely. Please log out of the survey and then log back in. You will be able to resume the survey at the point you left off.
Having this information and understanding who lives in your household allows us to select surveys that are relevant to you (or to your household).
All the factors we ask about (age, gender, profession, who lives in your household, etc) collectively figure into lifestyle, which is a major factor in determining what products and services (and related surveys) may be of interest to you and your family.
For example, we send surveys about products for children (and their parents) only to members who have children in their households.
Please be assured that all the information you provide is kept confidential. For more on how we protect your information, please visit the
MySurvey Privacy page.
No. Everyone who applies to become a member of the MySurvey Panel must have a separate e-mail address, so that we can ensure that we only invite relevant people to take part in individual surveys. There are several ways in which you can get a free e-mail address, such as
Hotmail,
Yahoo and
Googlemail.
MySurvey uses this e-mail address to invite you to new surveys. You also need your MySurvey registered e-mail address to log on to our website If you have made a typing error, you will not be able to either log onto your personal page on
MySurvey or receive invitations to our surveys.
If you have provided us with a secondary e-mail address, please send an e-mail from this address to our panel manager,
Emma Morrison requesting your primary e-mail address.
Once we have provided you with this e-mail address, please log on to the website with your username and password and change your primary e-mail address into the correct one. Once this address has been updated, you will receive invitations to this address.
Your answers to each question are automatically stored. If you need to go and do something else before completing the survey or if you lose your internet connection halfway through, your answers will not be lost. So just carry on from where you left off when you log back on.
When you have completed the Registration form, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from survey@mytns.com. This e-mail address will contain a link, which you have to click to confirm your membership of the MySurvey Panel. Shortly after you will be able to access your personal page on our
home page and start being invited to participate in online surveys.
The confirmation email was sent to the email address you registered with. If you accidentally misspelled your email address, you will not receive the email. Or, the email may have been flagged as spam by your mailbox. Please check your junk mail folder. Also, in some cases, it may take a few minutes for the email to arrive.
If you do not receive your email within fifteen minutes, please send us an e-mail. Send the following details to receive a quick response:
- Your full name
- Your MySurvey registered email

4. Surveys
Businesses, governments, public bodies and similar organisations are interested in the views and attitudes of the people who use their products and services. MySurvey gives them the chance to do this – and gives you the opportunity to influence what goes on in the world.
Companies recurrently use market research to make decisions on product development and marketing. By participating in our surveys, you will help develop new products, shape the products you see on stores, services offered to you, and advertisements you see on television or in print.
Once you have been accepted and completed the Registration form, you may be invited to participate within the next day. It depends on your personal details - we'll only ask you to take part in surveys that are of direct relevance to you.
How often we will invite you to one of our surveys depends on your personal details – Having this information and understanding who lives in your household allows us to select surveys that are relevant to you (or to your household).
All the factors we ask about (age, gender, profession, who lives in your household, etc) collectively figure into lifestyle, which is a major factor in determining what products and services (and related surveys) may be of interest to you and your family. For example, we send surveys about products for children (and their parents) only to members who have children in their households.
The chance of receiving an invitation increases when you update your profile with additional or updated information. Participation is always on a voluntarily basis.
To ensure you receive our survey invitations, please make sure you added us to your "known or approved senders" list. Most e-mail clients allow you to set this through an Options, Tools and/or Filters menu. By adding @mytns.com, you ensure that all survey invitations will reach you.
Regardless of how often you take a survey, your opinions always make a difference in the development of new products and services.

Participation is always voluntary. If you do not wish to take part, please just ignore our invitation to participate.
If you are unavailable for a certain period of time, please send an e-mail to
Emma Morrison indicating the period and the reason why you are not able to participate in a survey. We will make sure that you will not receive any invitations during that period.
The surveys at MySurvey cover all sorts of topics. You may be asked about products or services, current social developments, new advertisements, how you assess newspapers or television programmes - to name a few examples.
The number of questions varies from one survey to another and we try to keep it as short as possible - although we have to make sure the results are meaningful. In general, it should take around 15 to 20 minutes to fill in your answers.
No. Everyone who applies to become a member of the MySurvey panel must have a separate e-mail address, so that we can ensure that we only invite relevant people to take part in individual surveys. There are several ways in which you can get a free e-mail address, such as
http://www.hotmail.com/,
www.yahoo.com and
http://ww.gmail.com/.
It's rare to have a problem when entering a survey but possible problems are that:

(III) It is possible that the use of JavaScript is switched off in the settings of your browser, in which case the questionnaire will not work. You will be able to read instructions how to enable JavaScript in your browser in the section "How to enable JavaScript ?".
(IV) Most of our surveys are tested on Internet Explorer and if you are using a different kind of browser you may have problems. Try opening the survey in Internet Explorer.

In this case, you should either copy and paste the entire URL address onto your browser, or manually type it in, to access the survey site.
If your age is off by a single year, you may have qualified for this survey before your last birthday.
If your age is off by more than a year or the gender or age/gender of the person invited to take a survey is incorrect, please e-mail us so that we can correct it. This may have been a simple data entry error made during registration or an update survey. Please allow us a week or two to make the correction.
In either case, please feel free to take the survey. If you are asked for your age, please supply the correct age.
Occasionally we get such an overwhelming instant response to surveys that we have to close them off quickly as we already have the necessary statistical sample. Additionally, all surveys have a finite life due to data collection requirements and may be open for short periods of time.
If you do not qualify for a particular project, it simply means the project’s requirements do not match your profile or that we already have enough participants for that particular study.
The blank screen you have encountered can be the result of heavy user traffic within the survey, or connection issues between servers. It takes a few seconds for a survey page to load, due to the number of panel members trying to access the site simultaneously. Our best advice is to try the ‘Refresh’ button, or trying the survey at a different time.
You can re-enter the survey using the same link if you would like to take a short break or you are interrupted. Your answers won't be lost; you can start later where you left the survey before.
If you received a thank you page following your survey submission, your data was received with no difficulties. Sometimes this "Thank you" page does not appear due to miscellaneous connectivity/communication issues. If you wish to verify that your data was received, try logging in to the survey – if your responses were received, you will see a screen informing you that you have already participated in this project.
Your participation to our surveys is always voluntary. If a particular survey question does not provide answer options that apply to you, try to select the one that seems closest to your opinion and proceed with the survey.
For technical reasons the system does not allow you to correct answers and use the back button: once the system has stored an answer, the next question is based on the previous one.
Certain questions must be answered before you can continue with a survey. These answers are necessary for statistical purposes. If you have answered all the questions on the page and this message is still occurring, then check for a scroll bar on the side of the page. It may happen that all the questions do not fit on the screen therefore use the scroll bar to move the page down and be able to complete the survey.
We recommend you to read the survey instructions carefully in order to complete the survey.
Typical errors are:
(I) You are asked to enter numbers in several fields. Make sure you have filled in each field.
(II) The question is in grid form; you must have an answer in each row (or column). Look at the specific question to determine what is asked: row vs. column answers. As you review the question, make sure all of the rows (or columns) have at least one answer selected.
(III) The page has numerous questions with drop down boxes or the question has numerous drop-down boxes (similar to a grid). Make sure that one answer has been selected from each drop down box. If you are still unable to answer the question, please e-mail us at Emma Morrison and we will investigate further.
Please scroll to the bottom and the far right of the page to see if the button is there.
It is also possible that the page did not download completely. Please log out of the survey and then log back in. You will be able to resume the survey at the point you left off.
If that happens, there may be a temporary technical problem. The best thing to do is to try again later. If you get an error message while you are working on the questionnaire, log in later and carry on from where you left off. You can also contact the helpdesk, using the link that's on the first page of every survey.

6. MySurvey Points and Rewards
The points from all completed surveys do take some time to be uploaded. There are many surveys taking place at the same time and the process for awarding and uploading the points is quite a long procedure. We have to wait until a project is closed before we can upload the points. At times a project could possible last from a week and occasionally it may take up to a couple of months.
Therefore, we ask that you wait a month after you take the survey and then check your MySurvey Points account. If the survey you participated in does not appear on this list then, please contact our panel manager
Emma Morrison. When you send us an e-mail, please include the project number mentioned in the subject line of the invitation e-mail. You can find this project number in the subject line of the invitation e-mail we sent you, it is a 5 digit number and usually starts with a 7 or 8.
When you click on the shop button on your personal homepage, it will take you to the rewards section of our website. There you will be able to exchange your MySurvey Points.
When you access our website, the amount of points will be shown in the
reedem point page.

9. Messenger
It's a small software application that lets you know about surveys instantly --- the moment you go online -- so you don't have to check your email or read through it.
After you download and install MySurvey Messenger, a small icon that looks like the image at right will appear in your system tray (usually located on the bottom right corner of your computer monitor) that shows time and speaker volume. Any time you are connected to the Internet, the MySurvey Messenger software can receive messages about the surveys that are waiting for you. If there is a survey waiting, the check mark will blink on and off and an animation will appear on your monitor to alert you. If you click on the animation, you can get more information about the survey, including the number of MySurvey Points and a link to MySurvey.com to take the survey.
In addition to being a MySurvey.com member, there are also some operating system requirements. To download, you must be using a PC connected to the Internet and have a Windows operating system of Windows 2000 or greater (such as Windows 2000, or 2003; Windows NT; Windows XP; or Windows Vista).
If you have a Windows 98 operating system and sufficient memory (at least 32 MB), MySurvey Messenger will probably work on your computer. If you do not have sufficient memory space and have a Windows 98 operating system, we do not recommend installation.
You must also have Internet Explorer 5.5 or above installed on your computer (even if you don't use it as your primary browser).
Note to users of browsers other than Internet Explorer: When you click on the survey link a new browser window will open to MySurvey.com in Internet Explorer. If you do not wish to complete the survey in Internet Explorer, you may close that window and open your preferred browser and navigate to MySurvey.com. Alternatively you can complete the survey using the Internet Explorer browser, close it when you are finished and open your preferred browser.
We regret that MAC, Linux, WebTV, or BEOS users cannot download MySurvey Messenger at this time. If you are unsure about what operating system you have or if you have difficulty downloading or installing, please click here to contact our Support team.
When there are no surveys to take, the MySurvey Messenger icon (at right) will simply appear in the system tray of your computer monitor (same location that shows the time of day, usually located at the lower right corner of your monitor). When you have a survey to take, the check mark will blink on and off and a small animation like the one below at left will pop up letting you know. When you click on the animation, you'll get a few survey details, such as those shown on the example at right. You must be connected to the Internet to receive survey notifications.
MySurvey Messenger will not interfere with any security software that you have on your computer (such as McAfee or Norton products or firewall products). However, this type of software may alert you when Messenger is accessing the Internet to determine if you have a survey waiting – warnings may include spyware alerts because MySurvey Messenger is accessing the Internet and the security software cannot determine its exact purpose. Rest assured - only MySurvey.com can send you messages through MySurvey Messenger and only MySurvey.com staff have access to the methods to notify you via the Messenger software. This ensures that all the messages you receive are safe, secure and free of any issues that might harm your computer.

This ensures that all the messages you receive are safe, secure and free of any issues that might harm your computer. With MySurvey Messenger, as with any aspect of your MySurvey.com participation, we protect your privacy as described in our Privacy Policy.
Once you are logged into MySurvey.com, click on Messenger in the top menu and then click the Install button at the bottom of the page. You will be directed to another page that describes the download and installation process. The entire download and installation process takes less than five minutes.
MySurvey Messenger is voluntary and your membership is not affected, whether or not you decide to use it. If you find you don't like it, all you need to do is take the application off your computer using the standard Windows uninstall process (Add/Remove Software) - generally found under Settings/Control Panel. If you need assistance, please contact us.

The MySurvey Messenger makes sure you know about ALL your survey opportunities and chances to earn MySurvey Points the moment you go online.
The latest research indicates more than 20% of wanted emails are blocked and never reach your inbox. MySurvey Messenger will ensure that you receive all survey notifications.
For some surveys, we don't send an invitation - they become available when you log in to MySurvey.com. The Messenger software will notify you about these surveys too.
Receive non-survey message alerts from us such as notifying you if you win one of our sweepstakes, alert you of changes to our website or provide other information related to your membership.
There are no absolute downsides except those that relate to your personal preferences - for example, whether you want instant notification. If you share a computer or use your computer at work, a survey notification will be obvious on your desktop which may be an issue if you'd prefer not to share this information with others.
There are several setting adjustments that can be accessed by right clicking the MySurvey Messenger icon in your system tray, including the following options:
Play sound if survey found - if this option is checked, a sound will tell you when a survey is available. Click to uncheck and no sound will play. Click again to turn the sound back on.
User settings - Shows your MySurvey username and password used by Messenger. You can also set/unset "play sound if a survey is available" from the User Settings menu option.
Log in to MySurvey - when you click on this menu item, you'll go to the MySurvey.com log in page.
Check for Survey - clicking this menu item activates MySurvey Messenger. The software will check for a survey and provide any details.
No Further Reminders Today - If you have surveys available, MySurvey Messenger's default reminder schedule is once per hour while you are connected to the Internet. Clicking the No Further Reminders Today option changes the setting such that no further reminders will appear for that day as long as you remain connected to the Internet. Checking for surveys via MySurvey Messenger will reset this option back to the default schedule of one hour.
Exit MySurvey Messenger - check this option to remove the MySurvey Messenger icon from your system tray (and therefore stop it from functioning). The icon will automatically appear again next time you start (or reboot) your computer.
The default reminder schedule is once per hour, however there are two options for changing the notification.
No Further Reminders Today - This option will keep you from receiving all survey alerts for the rest of the day. However, checking for surveys via MySurvey Messenger or restarting your computer will reset this option back to the default schedule of one hour. This option is accessed through the MySurvey Messenger menu. To set no further reminders for the day, right click the MySurvey Messenger icon in your system tray, click the No Further Reminders Today option.
Stop This Survey Alert - This option will stop an alert for a particular survey for the duration of the study. You will continue to receive alerts for other surveys that may be available to you and the survey will still be available on the Taka-A-Survey page when you log in to MySurvey.com. The Stop This Survey Alert option is particularly useful when you are participating in a diary or tracking study that requires completion over a long period of time. To use this option click on Stop This Survey Alert at the bottom right of the alert window.
No, you'll still get email notifications for most surveys too - as back up and because the email provides details that you may want/need (Messenger provides only summary information -- that a survey is available and reward details for taking it).
If you don't have time to take a survey right away, the MySurvey Messenger animation will come up periodically to remind you that a survey is still waiting. If the survey closes before you have a chance to take the survey, the animation will disappear. As always, taking any survey is voluntary and it's not a problem if you miss an opportunity to take a survey. We will continue to notify you about opportunities as long as we know you are still interested.
